Following Children's Natural Curiosity

PROGRAMS

Our infant program is designed for children aged 8 weeks to 18 months. Our nurturing environment fosters exploration and independence, allowing infants to develop at their own pace. We maintain a 3:1 ratio of infants to adults.

The Montessori toddler program

(12 months to 3 years) fosters independence and curiosity. In a prepared environment, toddlers engage in hands-on activities that promote sensory exploration and motor skills.

The Montessori Primary Program, for children aged 2 ½ to 6, promotes a love for learning through hands-on experiences. Children explore subjects at their own pace, developing thinking and social skills in a nurturing environment.

ABOUT US

Our Story

Highlands Montessori is a nurturing Montessori school in Wheat Ridge, CO, offering high-quality care and education for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. Over the past decade, we’ve grown from a small classroom of 10 toddlers into a thriving community of more than 80 children—while staying true to the values that guided us from the beginning.

Founded by former public Montessori teachers, Highlands Montessori is independently owned and operated. We’re not part of a chain—we’re a school created and run by educators, grounded in authentic Montessori principles and a deep respect for the people at the heart of our community: the children, the families who trust us, and the teachers who make the work possible. Our leadership is present and engaged, and our approach reflects a belief in strong relationships, meaningful learning, and the power of a thoughtfully prepared environment. We follow an individualized, whole-child approach—supporting not just academic growth but social, emotional, and physical development as well.

At Highlands Montessori, we are committed to fostering a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion. We believe every individual deserves a safe and supportive environment where their unique backgrounds and perspectives are honored. Together, we strive to create an inclusive educational experience that empowers every learner to thrive.

Expertly Trained Teachers Committed to Authentic Montessori Education

At Highlands Montessori, all of our teachers are trained and certified through either AMI (Association Montessori Internationale) or AMS (American Montessori Society), ensuring that our staff adheres to the highest standards of Montessori education. These prestigious certifications reflect our commitment to providing an authentic Montessori experience, grounded in Dr. Maria Montessori's philosophy. Our educators are not only knowledgeable in child development and Montessori principles, but also bring practical, hands-on experience with Montessori materials to create an enriching, child-centered learning environment. With this expert training, our teachers are dedicated to guiding each child’s individual growth, fostering independence, supporting families, and cultivating a love of learning.

Highlands Montessori is a special place. The directors, guides, and other staff really believe in the mission and Montessori model, and they are enthusiastic about helping children learn and grow. They all bring such care and intention to the classrooms every day; it truly feels like a home away from home. We have also received great guidance and support related to all kinds of developmental stages and transitions, which has been invaluable for our family. We're so grateful to be part of this community.
